Madden is a game focused around strategy. Having the right playbook is one way to create an advantage before the game even starts. Everyone is looking for the cookie cutter best playbook in Madden 22. However, that is not how you should be going about selecting a playbook. Your offensive and defensive playbooks should be fitted to your personnel. The Chiefs playbook is the best playbook for the Chiefs offense. The Ravens playbook is the best playbook for a Lamar Jackson led offense. With that said, here are the best playbooks in Madden 22, based on your roster.
The Best Offensive Playbook For a Pass-Heavy Team
The best offensive playbook in Madden 22 is the Kansas City Chiefs, if you are looking to throw the ball often. Madden has made a concerted effort to more accurately match a teams play style over the past two games. Nobody is better at designing passing sets than Andy Reid, and EA is there to steal his plays and hand them to you.
Honorable Mention: The New Orleans Saints Playbook
The Best Offensive Playbook For a Run-Heavy Team
If your quarterback can handle designed runs than the Baltimore Ravens playbook is the way to go. Even with a stationary signal caller this playbook would be recommended for a run-heavy offense. An alternative would be to check out the Cleveland Browns offensive playbook. The Browns have a more standard 2021 running attack. The Ravens use a lot more complex play designs that may be a little too TE/FB focused. The Browns run a very normal playbook that most rosters can run effectively.
The Best Offensive Playbook For a Mobile Quarterback
As I alluded to earlier, the Baltimore Ravens Playbook is the best playbook for a team with a mobile quarterback at the helm. The playbook has plenty of designed quarterback runs and will call them frequently if you rely on coaching suggestions to pick plays. The playbook has a great running game overall and utilizes the tight end effectively. A mobile quarterback can thrive in this system.
The Best Offensive Playbook For a Balanced Team
If you are looking for a balanced offensive approach, then you have some options. The San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders are both quality playbooks for balanced attacks. That said, I think the New England Patriots have the best offensive playbook for a balanced team. The offense is great for mid-range passing and features a new formation designed for a dynamic run game. If you have a solid run game, and want a safe passing attack, look no further than New England. There is still plenty of plays to air the ball out, but a lot of the passing plays are designed for risk mitigation.
The defensive playbooks in Madden 22 are going to be even more important. Defense is less user driven and more pre-play strategy. Once again, you are going to want to fit your defense to your team. The easiest distinction is between a 4-3 and 3-4 defense. If you have four athletic and talented linebackers, the 3-4 defense is for you. If not, plug the holes with a 4-3 pass rush, using two defensive tackles and two defensive ends.
The Best Defensive Playbook: Hybrid
I like to mix up my looks when playing Madden. A hybrid defense is the way to go. The best hybrid defense is the New England Patriots Defense. They have a base 3-4 defense but also have two 4-3 sets as well. The Patriots playbook is very balanced and features everything you need to beat your opponent.
The Best Defensive Playbook: 3-4
The best defensive playbook in Madden 22 is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playbook. 3-4 defenses utilize four linebackers which is ideal given Madden’s emphasis on speed. Linebackers are also easier to develop and have more of an impact on the game than defensive tackles in franchise mode. My goal is always to get four high-end linebackers and create havoc with complex blitzes, quarterback spies, and user coverage to take away the middle of the field. The best way to do this in Madden is with a 3-4 defense. Fortunately, Todd Bowles is bringing some unique blitz packages to the game.
The Pittsburg Steelers also have a great 3-4 defense with some formations that are brand new to Madden 22.
The Best Defensive Playbook: 4-3
The best defensive playbook in Madden 22 for a 4-3 defense is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have a bunch of 4-3 formations with a healthy mix of nickel, dollar, prevent, and goal line. The Vikings rely heavily on their defensive front. The 4-3 formation is the way to get the most out of the position group.
